Why do we say this?
Because blaming something else for bad things that happen to us means that it's never our fault. And if you see something great happening to someone, your jealousy kicks in and says it's just good luck, nothing at all to do with what hard work or what ambitious people they are. Nope. Our jealous minds tell us that they were born with the slim gene, inherited the urge to work hard or were just simply born lucky.
And this is the same way we look at people who win the lottery. Lucky. Just like that. No effort on their part was needed.
Or was it?
What if you look at everything a different way?
Everything that happens in your life -and I mean absolutely everything with no exceptions and no excuses - is because it was made to happen.
You see nothing happens by chance. Nothing! There are so many circumstances that have to come together first.
For instance, say you are in a car accident. You could blame the drunk driver (and rightly so). But it wasn't just their intoxication that caused the accident. It was everything that happened before that.
Previous events conspired to make the accident happen. It was partly because of what time you got out of bed, what you did that day, where you were at certain times and how long you stayed there.
So if you'd even spent just 30 more seconds drinking your coffee that morning, you'd have missed the accident by 30 seconds. It's these types of circumstances when we say "If only... if only" or "Should-a, would-a, could-a."
But by then it's too late.
And the same circumstances are what surround whether or not you win the lotto. Just because you weren't expecting it doesn't mean it was an on-the-spot unexplained or "lucky" phenomenon.
It all depends on the numbers you pick or the numbers picked out by the lotto machine. And there are lots of things that can affect which numbers are drawn too.
There are also lots of circumstances that make you choose the numbers you do. It might be birthdays, superstitions (7 is lucky, etc) or how the lotto machine at the store chose your numbers for you, which could depend on the time of day you bought your ticket and who bought tickets before you, amongst other things.
And of course, you need to look at people who have repeated lotto wins, so many times that it seems that they are winning enough to live off.
How do they do it?
Surely you can see that the lotto is not a game of chance to them and they don't wait for lady luck to smile on them either. Instead, they go out and create their own fortune of constant lotto wins.
And if you want to do the same, find out how they do it and then follow their lead.
Don't leave it up to chance because there is no such thing. Make it happen.
